competition at Hollister High School inspires students across California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tA robotics competition took place earlier Sunday afternoon at Hollister High School with over 20 teams competing from across the state, all high school students showing off their skills.Roughly 28 teams competed from around California.As much as this is a friendly competition, this is a moment for students to put their skills to the test.\u201cIt\u2019s definitely a labor of love not just for the coaches but for the students as well, our season we have about 3 to 400 hours,\u201d said a member of the Hollister High School robotics team.For the Hollister High School robotics team, each member plays a different but significant role.\u201cOur team is divided into multiple sub teams, so we have students from start to finish, they will cad the robot, wire the robot, fabricate the robot, they also code the robot and drive the robot, so at the end of the day they really get to own the robot,\u201d said another team member.Students have mentors and sponsors to help them along with the process.\u201cRobotics is a place for really anyone who wants a sort of real world experience in the industry because we work with industry level people like real life engineers like Apple, John Deere,\u201d said the captain of the robotics team.The captain of the robotics team said his role has opened the door for more opportunities in leadership.\u201cBecause of my role I found a passion that I love planning the logistical side of things, I like being able to make the logistics and seeing everyone\u2019s face light up once they execute it and they see the robot,\u201d he said.Another member has also gained a lot from joining the team.\u201cI\u2019ve learned how to work with adults in a professional sense, how to speak to adults and how to communicate more clearly,\u201d said another team member.\u201cBeing here to me it means everything that we worked towards for the last year doesn\u2019t mean nothing, it means something and everybody in the community is recognizing us for it,\u201d he added.According to FIRST Robotics in Northern California staff, this event really is about inspiring kids, making sure that they have opportunities, and making sure that they know they can change the world to make it a better
