BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — CHANGING WEATHER AHEAD

Our weather pattern has been on a seemingly rinse and repeat mode for weeks. That is about to change. Today looks like it will be the last day to resemble the day before it for at least much of this new week as a trough of low pressure, centered between Hawaii and California, will FINALLY impact the State. Before that happens though, we can expect another warm day across Kern County with highs in the 80s from the South Valley to the Desert, with 70s for the Mountains to the Kern River Valley.

RAIN, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME!

If we go through Tuesday without any measurable rainfall for Bakersfield’s official rain bucket, it will tie March of 1934, which came in with ZERO in our rain gauge. However, that low pressure system, while not very strong, could be JUST ENOUGH to bring some clouds and at least locally light rainfall to Kern County for the very last day of March 2026. All we need is 0.01 to make sure we don’t come in with the big goose egg before the clock strikes midnight on Wednesday AM. Will it happen? Oh the suspense!

COOLER TEMPS ARE HEADING IN TOO…

As a new and improved Spring-like airmass sails in our temperatures will finally get back to around “average” for this time of year. There is even the potential for an early AM reading to drop to freezing for the mountains, most likely toward the latter part of this week. We may go from air conditioners to heaters, at least locally, and for a brief time with this change. The winds are expected to ramp up as well, especially for the Kern River Valley, through the mountains and into the desert.

Have a great day!
