Photo by Junyao Yang on March 25, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>After 35 years in the Inner Sunset, You See Sushi closed earlier this month at 6th Avenue and Judah Street after its owners announced their retirement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to make friends and memories that we couldn\u2019t even imagine when we first immigrated here,\u201d the owners Ikuko Miura and Paul wrote on a notice on the door. \u201cWe hope that we were able to contribute to your life in some shape or form.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The small mom-and-pop restaurant used to be named We Be Sushi, although it was unclear if it\u2019s related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/02\/we-be-sushi-chef-retires-and-shutters-restaurant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">We Be Sushi locations in the Mission<\/a>. Another long-time Inner Sunset restaurant closed this month.<\/p>\n<p>Yumma\u2019s, a Mediterranean restaurant on Irving Street near 8th Avenue, closed its doors after nearly 30 years. Its last day of service was March 15. Elisa Dabis, who\u2019s part of the owner\u2019s family, said on Facebook that the owner, 74, decided to retire.<\/p>\n<p>Yumma\u2019s \u2014 meaning mother in Arabic \u2014 opened in 1998 at 721 Irving St. and was named after the owners\u2019 mom, who died in the early 2000s. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery recipe we have shared with you came from her kitchen and her heart,\u201d the owner wrote. \u201cBeing able to bring her food into your homes has been one of the greatest joys of our lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"853\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Sunset-Roasters-new-location-853x640.jpg\" alt=\"Two closed, weathered doors marked 3950 and 3944 in a beige storefront with graffiti and sunlight casting shadows on the sidewalk.\" class=\"wp-image-843836\"  \/>Sunset Roasters move from its location in the Golden Gate Park to the corner of 45th and Judah in the Outer Sunset. Photo by Junyao Yang. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunsetroasters.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunset Roasters<\/a>, a coffee truck and roastery that usually parked in front of the Botanical Garden near 9th Avenue, moved to a new home in the Outer Sunset in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The truck served coffee in Golden Gate Park for almost two years. Its new location, at 45th Avenue and Judah Street, is in front of a shuttered laundromat that closed in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The owners, Philip and Sara Roliz, started Sunset Roasters from their home in the Sunset back in 2018. Photo by Junyao Yang.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/12\/sf-sunset-buzz-december\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LaLe<\/a>, a Turkish restaurant, closed on Irving Street last November, construction on the space started almost right away. But in January, it came to a halt and a notice of violation from the city\u2019s Department of Building Inspection was taped on the door. \u201cA complaint investigation revealed that tenant improvements were occurring without the benefit of a permit,\u201d the notice read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In mid-March, another notice from the Public Works Department appeared, covering the previous notice of violation, citing that the parklet in front of the business is operating without a valid permit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to business filings in March, a new restaurant named Istanbul Kebab &amp; Gyros will open at the vacant space. The market runs through November on the second Sunday of the month on Irving Street between 9th and 11th avenues. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., it will feature vintage and second-hand vendors, local artists and markers, live music and free family-friendly activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first market of the year is April 12.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/PloverFest2026Social-640x640.webp.webp\" alt=\"Event poster for Ploverfest, the first annual Sunset Dunes community music festival, on Sunday, April 12 from 12-4 pm, listing music acts and sponsor logos.\" class=\"wp-image-843844\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/04\/sunset-dunes-great-highway-park-opens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">almost a year<\/a> since Sunset Dunes opened to the public.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the park\u2019s one-year anniversary, park advocates are putting together the first annual \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTwVPxuiSDj\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PloverFest<\/a>,\u201d a community music festival on April 12. It will have stages at Noriega, Rivera, Judah and Sloat, featuring local bands and DJs, as well as a kid play zone at Taraval Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the past year, the coastal park on the Great Highway has seen a lot: The giraffe art installation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWHkeaWAXAY\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has come and gone<\/a>; it prompted the successful <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/10\/joel-engardio-exit-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recall of a Sunset supervisor<\/a>, and is still <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/03\/sf-sunset-dunes-election-candidates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">playing a role<\/a> in the upcoming election. Even today, its fate is still uncertain given that a signature gathering effort is underway to put a measure to reopen the road on workdays up for another vote in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cSunset Buzz\u201d is a recurring column on changes, tidbits and other news from the Sunset.
