SAN JOSE \u2014 San Jose Sharks center Ty Dellandrea, out for nearly three months with a lower-body injury,<\/a> is now considered day-to-day, perhaps opening the possibility that he could be available to play at some point during the team\u2019s long homestand.<\/a><\/p>\n

Dellandrea was injured during the Sharks\u2019 home game<\/a> against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 6. Dellandrea had been considered week-to-week, but has now skated with the group for several days without any restrictions.<\/p>\n

Including the Sharks\u2019 home date against the St. Louis Blues on Monday, Dellandrea has missed the last 30 games<\/a> with the injury.<\/p>\n

Before his injury, Dellandrea was the Sharks third line center, a role that has since been assumed by rookie Michael Misa. Dellandrea had been one of the Sharks\u2019 faceoff leaders and top penalty killers, and what role he would play upon his return is unclear.<\/p>\n

Dellandrea, recently signed to a two-year contract extension,<\/a> had 11 points in 42 games this season before his injury. Misa had 16 points in 34 games<\/a> this season before Monday.<\/p>\n

Starting with Wednesday\u2019s home game against the Anaheim Ducks, the Sharks play 10 times in 16 days, including games on back-to-back days three times.<\/p>\n

The homestand, which will go a long way in determining whether the Sharks make the playoffs, continues with games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, the Nashville Predators on Saturday, the Chicago Blackhawks next Monday, and the Edmonton Oilers on April 8.<\/p>\n

The Sharks entered Monday in 12th place<\/a> in the Western Conference with 73 points, four points back of the Predators for the second wild card spot.<\/p>\n

ASKAROV UPDATE<\/p>\n

Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov, who sustained an upper-body injury in the second period of last Thursday\u2019s game in St. Louis, will start Monday\u2019s home game against the Blues. Askarov was unavailable for the Sharks\u2019 game in Columbus on Sunday, leading the Sharks to recall Laurent Brossoit from the Barracuda. Brossoit was loaned back to the Sharks\u2019 AHL affiliate on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

WARSOFSKY ON TORTORELLA<\/p>\n

Warsofsky said he was surprised to see the Vegas Golden Knights fire Bruce Cassidy<\/a> as their coach on Sunday night and replace him with John Tortorella.<\/p>\n

Cassidy helped guide the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup in 2023, but the team has underachieved this season and entered Monday in third place in the Pacific Division with a 32-26-16 record, including a 5-10-2 mark<\/a> since the Olympic break.<\/p>\n

Cassidy was the club\u2019s longest-tenured coach, with a record of 178-99-43 over four seasons.<\/a> Tortorella coached the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Cup in 2004 and has a career record of 770-648-37.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great game, it\u2019s a (crappy) business. So, I feel for (Cassidy),\u201d said Warsofsky, whose younger brother, David, played for Cassidy<\/a> in the AHL in Providence from 2010 to 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cA really good coach, Stanley Cup winner, did a lot for (the Boston Bruins). Obviously, knowing Torts, I\u2019m sure he\u2019s excited. He might have ridden a horse out there. He\u2019ll do a great job. But, you feel for the other side of it as well, more than anything, because I think (Cassidy) is a fabulous coach.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warsofsky first met Tortorella in 2022, as Warsofsky\u2019s time as the head coach of the AHL\u2019s Chicago Wolves was ending. The two then had a more in-depth chat a few weeks later about an opening on Tortorella\u2019s staff in Philadelphia, and life and family, at the NHL Draft in Montreal, roughly a month before Warsofsky officially joined the Sharks as an assistant coach on David Quinn\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n

The Sharks and Golden Knights do not play each other again this regular season. San Jose had 11 games left before Monday, and Vegas had eight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know (Tortorella) is probably excited about this opportunity,\u201d Warsofsky said.<\/p>\n

REAVES UPDATE<\/p>\n

Winger Ryan Reaves, considered week-to-week with an unspecified hand injury, watched the Sharks\u2019 morning skate from the team\u2019s bench on Monday. Several Sharks players have credited Reaves for his leadership role on the team this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wanted to come on the bench and be part of it, so that\u2019s good,\u201d Warsofsky said of Reaves. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be around.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reaves injured his left hand in a fight with Philadelphia\u2019s Garrett Wilson on March 21.
