Now, after hopscotching across the Bay Area, cooking in restaurants, wine bars, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2025\/09\/05\/dinner-friends-steam-room-strangers\/\" data-post-id=\"1bab3fe3-a6ac-482c-9fc1-38969d8003b4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tenderloin\u2019s beloved bathhouse and dinner destination Onsen<\/a>, the nostalgia-steeped chef is ready to settle down.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body text-left\">But Fat Cat, the Mission wine bar that will soon be home to Tang\u2019s modern Vietnamese menu, is just one of several compelling restaurants debuting in April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body text-left\">We\u2019ll also see the opening of West Portal brunch spot Tur, from the owners of the neighborhood\u2019s can\u2019t-miss Thai restaurant, as well as the reactivation of the Cafe Flore space as Parasol, a California-Mediterranean cafe. Fat Cat and Claws of Mantis, each of which has built a strong following over several years, are taking over the pale-pink space that formerly housed Hawaiian pinball bar Outer Orbit. Fat Cat owner Jessica Bell said it will be a wine-and-cheese operation for the first month, with chef Kevin Tang of Mantis (Tang is shortening the name along with the move) entering the picture in May to offer delights such as fried branzino over mango salad and oysters with charred Vietnamese pepper sauce. Look for drag-king bingo, guided pours from local winemakers, and an approachable wine list at this wonderfully cheeky mashup.<\/p>\n<p>Date and timeOpens April 9Tur<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body text-left\">Quietly but steadily, West Portal has become one of San Francisco\u2019s more exciting dining neighborhoods, with high-profile newcomers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2024\/06\/06\/elenas-brings-the-sizzle-to-west-portal\/\" data-post-id=\"b7df14e5-030b-4af2-8787-84c818c689b9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elena\u2019s<\/a>, Binu Bonu, and <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2025\/02\/01\/politics-are-dividing-our-city-down-to-the-doughnut\/\" data-post-id=\"23c989b6-cc06-4410-a8aa-bf02e5f2e586\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George\u2019s Donuts &amp; Merriment<\/a> augmenting a scene anchored by Original Joe\u2019s, Lazy Susan, Bursa, and Bullshead. Now the ever-popular Thai restaurant Khao Tiew is set to open a daytime-centric offshoot called Tur in the prominent corner location that used to be Squat &amp; Gobble. Dining Yamamoto comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2026\/03\/17\/sushi-bento-boom-continues-new-soma-spot-omakase-wiz\/\" data-post-id=\"94b6057b-a58e-468d-a233-3516a74b1545\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yukinori Yamamoto<\/a>, who spent eight years with the Mina Group as executive sushi chef before deciding to go it alone. The casual, lunch-only spot, located in a former pop-up restaurant space on the corner of 11th and Natoma, is intended to let customers swing by to grab a box and bring it back to the office \u2014 though there are a handful of communal tables if you don\u2019t want your sushi to get too warm on the walk back to work. The menu has yet to be announced, but prices will fall between $25 and $46 per bento.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Date and timeOpens April 1Parasol<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body text-left\">One of the most prominent restaurant spaces in the Castro, the flatiron-shaped Cafe Flore location,\u00a0returns as <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2026\/01\/26\/cafe-flore-parasol-opening\/\" data-post-id=\"0d66b80c-4af7-4f95-b24e-323e39f4ac2c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Parsol, an all-day cafe and restaurant<\/a>. Jacob Paronyan, who is a partner at fine-dining gem Boulevard and owner of the Cow Hollow wine bar Roaming Goat, hopes the new business will be a daytime destination for coffee and pastries like flaky bourek made using a family recipe. By night, the menu will offer \u201cCalifornia cuisine with Mediterranean flair,\u201d alongside wine, beer, and cocktails.
