On top of that, any business that\u2019s even partly owned by a permanent legal resident with a green card is no longer eligible for the loans.<\/p>\n<p>California \u2014 which has the most small businesses and the largest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/economy\/technology\/2026\/03\/california-opens-fusion-center-audit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">immigrant population<\/a>\u00a0in the nation \u2014 could be most affected. But how rich?<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor, reported a total income of $39 million, thanks to the duo\u2019s massive investments in the global stock market. That\u2019s more than all nine of his major opponents in the governor\u2019s race and their partners made that year combined, according to their federal tax returns released this week.<\/p>\n<p>A 2019 state law, designed to better inform California voters, requires candidates for governor to release\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.ca.gov\/elections\/upcoming-elections\/primary-election-june-2-2026\/candidate-tax-return\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">their federal tax returns<\/a>\u00a0to qualify for the June primary ballot.
