LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) \u2014 Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce announced during a work session at city hall on Tuesday night that he is hoping to get approval for a new regional corridor aimed at creating easier access to Interstate 10.<\/p>\n
Mayor Pierce proposed his plans to the Board of Alderman and community members in attendance. He says the addition would serve as a transportation and mobilization corridor, aiding the Port of Gulfport and the Naval Construction Battalion Center, and serving as an evacuation route for the area. <\/p>\n
This comes after a Beatline Road expressway plan went under and the city was left with $16.8 million from the federal government that was meant for the project. Now, he\u2019s looking to submit a white paper in hopes of securing the new project, as that $16.8 million expires in September of next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A map of the proposed corridor shows the multiple possible routes, and Mayor Pierce noted that he has already attained support.<\/p>\n
