LONG BEACH \u2013 The Lakewood softball team defeated Wilson 12-2 in a Moore League game Wednesday at Joe Rodgers Field.<\/p>\n

Jamie Ramirez led the Lakewood offense by going 4 for 5 with three singles and a double and had four RBIs. Katelynn Lewis set the table for Ramirez by going 4 for 5 with two triples and scored twice.<\/p>\n

Ramirez said seeing Lewis set the table for her and watching starting pitcher Bella Polanco grind helped her.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Lewis) really pumps us up,\u201d Ramirez said. \u201cShe motivates me because she gets on a lot and I\u2019m trying to be like her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we see Bella struggle like that, I tell the girls control the controllables. Let\u2019s just hit, we\u2019ve done it before. She really shakes things off really quickly. She stays motivated and she knows she can do better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Polanco pitched a complete game for Lakewood (9-10, 3-2), allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking seven.<\/p>\n

Lakewood exploded for seven runs in the first inning against Wilson (6-13, 3-2). Ramirez and Jaszee Childress each drove in two runs with singles.<\/p>\n

Lakewood took advantage of control issues for Wilson starter Madeline Bowser, who hit Mia Gastelum and Alyssa Valdez with the bases loaded for two runs.<\/p>\n

Gastelum scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.<\/p>\n

Bowser pitched a complete game, allowing 12 runs on 14 hits while walking three and hitting two batters. She struck out one batter.<\/p>\n

The freshman starter battled through two difficult innings and stayed in to finish out the game despite taking a line drive to her stomach in the 7th inning.<\/p>\n

Wilson coach George Molina was impressed seeing Bowser finish the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very proud of Maddie,\u201d Molina said. \u201cShe\u2019s a freshman and she\u2019s learning out here. This is school so we\u2019re here to learn especially after the last inning coming back from that, we\u2019re proud of her. She didn\u2019t have to (stay in the game). She is usually pretty honest, but she said she wanted to go and finish the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson got one run back in the bottom of the first when Sacha Zalamea drove in Charlotte White with a double. That cut Lakewood\u2019s lead to 7-1.<\/p>\n

The Bruins scored again when Bowser drove in White with an RBI single in the third inning to bring the score to 7-2.<\/p>\n

Bowser and Zolomea each had RBI hits for Wilson while White went 2 for 2 with two walks.<\/p>\n

Lakewood pulled away in the late innings, scoring four runs in the fourth on RBIs from Ramirez and Sienna Van Renesse. Ramirez drove in her final RBI in the 7th inning to bring the score to 12-2.<\/p>\n
