I don\u2019t know much about the Mario Brothers universe, but I was pleasantly surprised with the animated Mario Brothers movie a few years ago, with Jack Black, Charlie Day, and Seth Rogen voicing the characters. I couldn\u2019t rally to see this movie, and I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t. It\u2019s currently getting below 45% on Rotten Tomatoes; but if you like the Mario Brothers world, this weekend you can see it.<\/p>\n
MIKE & NICK & NICK & ALICE<\/p>\n
I remember as a kid watching \u201cHeaven Can Wait\u201d and thinking it was the best movie ever made. Then I saw Dyan Cannon at a Lakers game, and thought \u2013 she\u2019s my dream woman! Great movies and we can go watch Magic Johnson together. At that time I looked up all her old movies, and was surprised by the title of her film that came out the year of my birth \u2013 Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (in a weird coincidence, it ended up being one of the stars of that, Elliot Gould, that I\u2019d sit next to at a Lakers game once, but I digress). I thought of that 1969 movie with that weird title.\u00a0I liked the premise of this movie. That could be because, after I first saw Vince Vaughn in \u201cSwingers\u201d and \u201cMade\u201d (both with Favreau, before they were famous), and then the hysterical \u201cWedding Crashers\u201d (with Owen Wilson replacing Jon) \u2013 I wanted him cast in every comedy. And he seems perfect as a hit man for the mob that goes back in time (only 6 months back), and tries to save a guy he was responsible for having killed (James Marsden). It\u2019s a shame talented character actor Keith David was wasted in this garbage. The problem is that the characters are rather dull. I wanted Vaughn to have a bunch of his snarky comments (he did have a few). There were a few laughs, but not many. The logic makes no sense either. The fact that he\u2019s able to go back in time and kidnap the other version of himself; or the fact that he knows the guy is sleeping with his wife, yet the guy opens the door to let him in at the hotel (where he has candles going and is ready for her arrival)…or when this guy is sure Nick is going to kill him, but he still goes along with him. Oh, and if Nick knows this guy thinks he\u2019s going to kill him, and he\u2019s really not (he\u2019s instead framing him), why not just tell him, \u201cLook, I know you\u2019re having an affair with my wife. This isn\u2019t about that.\u201d My wife and I only got through an hour of this, and we disliked it so much, we turned it off. 1 star out of 5 for me.
