Standing trial are Mtula Payton and Dandrae Martin, who are believed to have been among the gunmen in the shootout that left six dead and 12 injured along K Street on April 3, 2022.Of the six who died, three were innocent bystanders, and the other three were part of the gunbattle that investigators believe was gang-related. Dandrae Martin’s brother, Smiley Martin, was also arrested, but he died in jail in June 2024. His listed cause of death was methadone toxicity.Dandrae and Payton have previously pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons violations, and their trial has been delayed since its original date of January 2025.The three victims are 21-year-old Johntaya “JoJo” Alexander, 57-year-old Melinda Davis and 21-year-old Yamile Martinez-Andrade.The other three people who died were 29-year-old DeVazia Turner, 38-year-old Sergio Harris and 32-year-old Joshua Hoye-Luchessi.
