FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Fresno home improvement store is dealing with another act of vandalism after a rock was thrown through its front window early in the morning, marking what management says is a recurring problem for businesses in the shopping center.<\/p>\n
Terri Jory, store manager of Home Crafters Spas and Barbeque, said the latest incident was discovered after an early call from the store’s alarm company.<\/p>\n
“At 5 a.m., our alarm company contacted us and stated our alarm was showing glass breakage and honestly, we felt like here we go again,” Jory said.<\/p>\n
The shattered window is the third similar incident the store has experienced in the past 12 months, according to a reporter at the scene. Jory said the pattern goes back even further.<\/p>\n
“Our 5th time in the last 18,19 months and then just a couple of years ago, a car drove through our front door just to grab a grill and leave,” she said.<\/p>\n
Jory said her business is not alone. She said multiple retailers in the same shopping center have also been repeatedly targeted.<\/p>\n
“Well, in this shopping center, we have been hit often, Colorado Grills’ been hit often, and the beauty supply store next door has been hit often,” Jory said.<\/p>\n

Restaurant owners told Action News their windows and doors have been smashed about 20 times in the last five years, including an incident just weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Jory said she believes people experiencing homelessness in the area may be involved, citing ongoing encampments near the storefronts.<\/p>\n
“We believe it’s a lot of the homeless because there is a huge group of homeless around and they’re in front of our stores and they sleep in front of our store and nothing’s being done about it,” she said.<\/p>\n
Beyond the repeated damage, Jory said the store is now facing significant repair costs.<\/p>\n
“Right now with these boarded windows we’re looking at about 80 grand…,” she said.<\/p>\n
She said the damage also affects how customers perceive the business and raises concerns about safety.<\/p>\n
“We strive to be a high-end reputable place to visit, and it’s not appearing so when you walk up, and there are boards in the window,” Jory said.<\/p>\n
Several windows across the store remain boarded up, each tied to a separate vandalism incident. Jory said replacing the glass has not stopped the damage.<\/p>\n
“When we replace those boards with the windows, we end up with boards again within 1-2 months, so it’s a very frustrating cycle and obviously putting the glass up isn’t stopping the issue,” she said.<\/p>\n
