Meta Platforms has decided to slash almost 200 jobs in the Bay Area, marking the tech company\u2019s most recent downsizing in the region, a state government filing shows.<\/p>\n

According to a WARN notice filed with the state Employment Development Department, the Facebook creator will cut 124 jobs in Burlingame and 74 in Sunnyvale.<\/p>\n

So far in 2026, Meta has eliminated 519 jobs<\/a>, this news organization\u2019s review of the company\u2019s WARN filings in California shows.<\/p>\n

The Burlingame layoffs are slated to take place on May 22, the WARN letter revealed. The Sunnyvale layoffs are due to occur on May 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeparations resulting from this action are expected to be permanent,\u201d Chief People Office Janelle Gale wrote in the WARN notice.<\/p>\n

None of the affected workers are represented by a labor union, Meta stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeparated employees are not permitted to displace remaining employees based on seniority or any other factor,\u201d Gale wrote in the WARN letter.<\/p>\n

Meta said, \u201cThere are no bumping rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

From 2023 to 2025, the Bay Area lost 137,200 tech jobs<\/a>. Tech companies announced multiple waves of worldwide layoffs during those years.<\/p>\n
