Reported serious crime in Oakland fell nearly 30% in the first three months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, said police, who noted declines across cases of homicide and robbery.<\/p>\n
In a statement Wednesday, the Oakland Police Department said crimes such as homicide, aggravated assault, rape, robbery and burglary dropped 29% from Jan. 1 through March 31 compared with the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n
Police reported homicides fell 39%, from 23 to 14 cases, while robberies were down 30% from 537 to 374. Aggravated assaults went down 13% from 678 to 588, and cases of rape fell 50% from 46 to 23.<\/p>\n
Burglaries also dropped 54%, from 2,424 to 1,124 reports, police said.<\/p>\n
The department also said officers conducted 66 human trafficking investigations, resulting in 81 arrests, and recovered more than 310 firearms so far this year.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the department said they are continuing to monitor slight increases in residential robberies and cases involving weapons other than firearms or knives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognize these statistics may not reflect the experiences of those impacted by crime,\u201d Police Chief James Beere said in a statement.<\/p>\n
In a statement released by the department, Mayor Barbara Lee said the downward trend reflects coordination between violence prevention programs, crisis response teams and law enforcement, but cautioned that more work remains.<\/p>\n
