FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 A new phase of affordable housing is moving forward in northeast Fresno, where Fresno Housing and community partners broke ground on Avalon Commons Phase II.<\/p>\n
The second phase will add 45 affordable apartment homes, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. <\/p>\n
,The expansion builds on Avalon Commons Phase I, which was completed in December 2024, and will bring the full Avalon Commons development to 105 total units in what Fresno Housing described as a high-opportunity area with access to schools, employment and essential services.<\/p>\n
Elected officials, development partners, and community members attended the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the next step in efforts to expand access to quality, affordable housing in Fresno.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not just building housing, we\u2019re changing what\u2019s possible for families in this community,\u201d said Tyrone Roderick Williams, CEO of Fresno Housing. \u201cAvalon Commons puts opportunity within reach with access to strong schools, stable housing, and a future families can build on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mayor Jerry Dyer said the project shows what can be achieved through investment and collaboration.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project reflects what we can accomplish when we invest in every corner of our city,\u201d Dyer said. \u201cCollaboration and strong partnerships are essential to addressing Fresno\u2019s housing needs, and Avalon Commons Phase II represents a meaningful step forward. By expanding housing opportunities in Northeast Fresno, we\u2019re supporting families today and building long-term stability for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sharon Williams also addressed the broader impact of housing on families and future generations, emphasizing that access to stable, quality housing creates a foundation for success and opportunity.<\/p>\n
Avalon Commons Phase II is being supported through a mix of public, private, and philanthropic partners, including the City of Fresno, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, PNC Bank, Brown Construction, R.L. Davidson, Inc. Architects, The Kresge Foundation and The California Endowment.<\/p>\n
