FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Five teenagers are recovering after three separate stabbing incidents that all happened within about one hour Thursday night in Fresno, police said.<\/p>\n
The victims range in age from 13 to 18.<\/p>\n
Police first responded around 9 p.m. to multiple reports of fights and at least one stabbing near the monthly ArtHop event in downtown Fresno. Officers say a crowd of several hundred people added to the chaos as they responded to a pair of assaults along Fulton
Street.<\/p>\n
Police said they had to break up multiple fights while working to secure the scene. More than 30 officers responded, and it took between 15 and 20 minutes to gain control of the area.<\/p>\n
Investigators later determined that a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman were stabbed in separate incidents downtown. A 29-year-old woman was also injured and is recovering from a broken nose.<\/p>\n
Several people were detained at the scene, but police said all were later released.<\/p>\n
The downtown incidents happened less than three weeks after a man was murdered in the same area the night before FresYes Fest. Police addressed concerns about violence surrounding community events.<\/p>\n
“It is unfortunate, yeah. And that’s one of the main reasons why our chief had officers already out here,” said Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland.<\/p>\n
Hoagland said Thursday was especially busy, as he also responded to another stabbing near River Park.<\/p>\n
Police said about an hour after the downtown violence, officers were called to a fight involving 10 teenagers outside the Regal Cinemas at River Park. During that incident, three teens were stabbed – a 14-year-old boy and two girls, ages 13 and 15.<\/p>\n
Investigators located evidence at the scene, including a knife they believe was used in the attack.<\/p>\n
Two teens – a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl – were arrested and will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said.<\/p>\n
“We do have more juveniles that are involved in violence this week,” Hoagland said.<\/p>\n
On Friday, the Fresno Police Department said it is concerned about youth violence as local schools are on break and urged parents to be more vigilant.<\/p>\n
“While your kids are out of school this week – or during any of these spring break or summertime – be mindful. Ask them those hard questions of, ‘What are you doing tonight? Who are you hanging out with?’ Because trouble like this sometimes follows groups like that,” said Fresno Police Lt. Larry Bowlan.<\/p>\n
Police said all victims in the three stabbings are expected to recover.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still searching for three to four men connected to the downtown Fresno attack. Anyone with information or video is urged to contact Fresno police at 621-7000 or Crime Stoppers. Tips can also be submitted through the department’s social media accounts.<\/p>\n
