Pasty Shack&#8217;s last day of operation will be April 24.The owner of Pasty Shack, Bobbie Mier, said it was just getting too expensive to continue.For decades, customers have walked through the door craving the comfort of home cooking. A pasty is a baked hand pie filled with meat and vegetables.&#8221;The aroma of the pasties that are even outside the door brings people in,&#8221; Mier said. &#8220;Anyone who grew up with pasties, when they come in, they say this was the closest to homemade.&#8221;Pasty Shack dates back to the 1950s when it operated out of a garage in Midtown. It moved around a few times before ending up on J Street near 48th Street in East Sacramento, where Bobbie Mier and her husband bought it.&#8221;We&#8217;ve had it for 35 years and this has been by far the toughest year for us,&#8221; Mier said.She said business has gone down and everything else has gone up.&#8221;From your rent to taxes, everything. It&#8217;s just it&#8217;s tough for a small business,&#8221; Mier said.Mier has been running the business without her husband since he passed away nine and a half years ago. She announced Thursday they will be closing this month and the response from customers has been overwhelming.&#8221;It&#8217;s been kind of off the walls. Like you can see we&#8217;re totally out of product,&#8221; Mier said.It&#8217;s that dedication from customers that made this decision so tough.&#8221;They&#8217;ve been the reason why we&#8217;ve stayed and why we&#8217;re here,&#8221; Mier said. &#8220;Usually someone every day will say, thank you for staying open. Thank you for being here, which is so sweet.\u201dAs they close their doors, Mier said she is proud of their decades-long run and the community they made along the way.In the next few weeks, Mier hopes people will stop in to say goodbye.
