Renovations are underway at 120 Mason Street at Mason and Eddy Streets, where Adan Cafe, a new Yemeni cafe, will open soon.<\/p>\n

The storefront appears to have been vacant for several years. City data<\/a> shows the latest business registered at that address left in 2019.<\/p>\n

Adan Cafe will be owned and managed by Qais Muftah and his two brothers. Muftah is also the owner of the Super Discount Market at 738\u00a0 Larkin<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The cafe will serve Yemeni and Turkish coffee, espresso drinks, and middle-eastern food, said Muftah. The business is still waiting on city approval for a few permits, but Muftah hopes to be able to open in a month or two.<\/p>\n

Another new caf\u00e9 (or bakery?) could also be coming, this time to the former Sammie Cafe at 881 Post and Hyde Streets, which appears to have closed sometime in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

City data shows that a new business, Golden Focaccia, registered at that address in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In February, Sammie\u2019s menu was still on display in the storefront\u2019s windows. This week, the windows were covered with paper.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the eastern edge of the Tenderloin, on 377 Geary Street, and Mason Street, the Odyssey Art Collective Gallery<\/a>\u2014originally launched as a pop-up in summer 2025\u2014will remain open longer than planned. Director Hailey Ashcraft-Fimiani told Mission Local that she has extended the lease for another year, through April 2027.<\/p>\n

On Monday, March 30, U.S. District Court judge Jon S. Tigar denied a preliminary injunction<\/a> that, if successful, would have prevented the city from engaging in direct or indirect distribution of safe drug use supplies.<\/p>\n

The injunction request was part of a lawsuit filed against the city of San Francisco by the Phoenix Hotel<\/a>, the restaurant inside the Phoenix Hotel, the Best Western Road Coach Inn, and\u00a0 five anonymous Tenderloin residents. The suit alleged that the city\u2019s support of the distribution of safe drug use supplies, either directly or through partner organization, had led to an increase in drug dealing, drug use, and property crime in the area.<\/p>\n

Tigar denied the motion on the grounds that the plaintiffs had failed to show that the distribution of safe drug supplies could be linked to a \u201cdegradation of the conditions in the Tenderloin\u201d, and failed to show that stopping the distribution would lead to an improvement in conditions.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, April 4, kids aged 3 to 12 are invited to Boeddeker Park at 246 Eddy St. and Jones for an easter egg hunt<\/a> organized by the Tenderloin Community Benefit District, Glide, and San Francisco Recreations and Parks. The event will take place from 12 to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

If you love the Tenderloin, you know that the First Thursday Art Walk is not to be missed. Second Thursdays in Dodge Alley, put on by the Tenderloin Museum, are also worth checking out. On Thursday, April 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., the alley will host a reading by \u201ca superlative review of San Francisco poets<\/a>\u201d connected to the museum\u2019s newest exhibit about Tenderloin resident and Native Alaskan (Koyukon Athabaskan) poet Mary TallMountain, which Mission Local reported on in the last buzz<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For further art adventures, head to the San Francisco Public Library at 100 Larkin Street, where the Wood Engraver\u2019s Network<\/a> is presenting its Fifth Triennial Exhibition. The exhibition runs from March 27 to May 17. Over at the\u00a0 Rosebud Gallery at 839 Larkin,\u00a0 The Nature Show<\/a>, an exhibit showing the work of 70 Bay Area artists is on view from April 2 to April 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n
