Wide-ranging closures of freeway lanes and ramps are scheduled to resume in the Bay Area to install fiber optics as part of a major California broadband initiative, according to a state government agency.<\/p>\n
The shutdowns are slated to take place during the night hours in sections of Alameda County, Contra Costa County and Solano County, the state Transportation Department said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe construction work, which focuses on installing new fiber optic infrastructure, will be conducted during overnight hours, specifically between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize traffic disruption,\u201d Caltrans stated.<\/p>\n
The closures will occur in the eastbound and westbound directions of Interstate 80 and Interstate 980, according to the state agency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project will progress east from McDonald Avenue toward the Carquinez Bridge\u201d along Interstate 80, Caltrans stated. \u201cFull closures of ramps and lanes are planned from Monday, April 6, 2026, to Thursday, April 9, 2026, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.\u201d<\/p>\n
The San Pablo Avenue ramps, San Pablo Dam Road ramp, Hilltop Road on-ramp loop, Richmond Parkway ramps, and Fitzgerald Drive ramp will be affected.<\/p>\n
Additional nightly closures will occur near Appian Way, Carquinez Bridge, West MacArthur to I-80 and the interchange of I-980 and I-580 throughout the project.<\/p>\n
Some off-ramps will be closed during these operations. Caltrans advised drivers to use the prior exit to reach their destinations and avoid delays.<\/p>\n
The closures are required for the installation of fiber optics as part of California\u2019s Fiber Optics Infrastructure Program.
