How very California.<\/p>\n
Here on the left edge of America, governors, legislators and bureaucrats love to impose their partisan Utopia on the rest of us \u2013\u2013 at our own expense<\/a>, of course.<\/p>\n This time it\u2019s taxpayer subsidies for personal EV repairs.<\/p>\n How ludicrous.<\/p>\n Under a state program rolled out March 30<\/a>, some EV owners can have taxpayers cover up to $7,500 in EV battery or fuel-cell repair costs.<\/p>\n Or if the battery\u2019s beyond repair, taxpayers will hand over $10K toward the purchase of a new, personal EV.<\/p>\n The governor, legislators and regulators have their heads in the clouds. AP<\/p>\n What a racket.<\/p>\n If state officials find you deserving (i.e., you\u2019re a low-income EV owner), congratulations.<\/p>\n If they don\u2019t \u2026 prepare to pay up.<\/p>\n The program \u2013\u2013 run by the California Air Resources Board and dubbed the Zero-Emission Assurance Project \u2013\u2013 is the product of AB 193, passed by the Legislature<\/a> and signed by former Gov. Jerry Brown in 2018.<\/p>\n And it\u2019s (yet) another example of the disconnect between the state\u2019s ruling class and reality.<\/p>\n First: California motorists don\u2019t want to be told what to drive \u2013\u2013 or made to pay the bills of those who made \u201cenlightened,\u201d state-approved choices<\/a>.<\/p>\n Second: We should all be able to agree that motorists (yes, even those with low incomes) should cover their own car-repair bills.<\/p>\n It\u2019s basic personal responsibility.
