A San Jose man who allegedly ran away from a fatal crash early Saturday near Moss Landing was arrested after a drone spotted him, the California Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n
One person was killed and three injured in the head-on collision around 12:45 a.m. April 4 on Salinas Road (Highway 1). A northbound BMW sedan believed to have been driven by a 25-year-old San Jose man crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Ford SUV, the CHP\u2019s Monterey unit said.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found the SUV\u2019s driver \u2014 its sole occupant \u2014 had suffered fatal injuries. There was one injured man in the BMW; he was not thought to have been driving.<\/p>\n
A drone operated by Monterey County sheriff\u2019s deputies found two men in a field, believed to be the BMW\u2019s driver and a passenger. Both had been injured.<\/p>\n
The suspected driver was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n
The identity of the SUV\u2019s driver has not been released.<\/p>\n
It was the second fatal crash in northern Monterey County within five hours, the CHP said. Around 8 p.m. Friday, a 16-year-old boy was killed when a car in which he was riding hit a tree off Meridian Road, northeast of Castroville.<\/p>\n
The alleged driver, a 37-year-old Castroville man, was injured, as were two other passengers, boys ages 7 and 14.\u00a0 DUI was suspected, the CHP said.<\/p>\n
