{"id":254571,"date":"2026-04-06T20:45:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T20:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/254571\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T20:45:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T20:45:11","slug":"netflix-playground-expands-family-programming-with-kid-friendly-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/254571\/","title":{"rendered":"Netflix Playground expands family programming with kid-friendly games"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Netflix continues to double down on its gaming features, introducing new kid-friendly content.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2026-03-30\/157-billion-in-global-streaming-revenue-tripled-since-2020\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">streaming platform<\/a> is launching a  gaming app called Netflix Playground that targets children and features such games as  \u201cPlaytime With Peppa Pig\u201d and \u201cSesame Street.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters,\u201d said John Derderian, Netflix\u2019s vice president of animation series and kids TV, in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Netflix Playground is designed for children 8 years old and younger and is included in all levels of membership. Each game will be playable offline, including \u201cStorybots,\u201d \u201cDr. Seuss\u2019s The Sneetches\u201d and \u201cBad Dinosaurs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In addition to  parental controls, the app  does not allow ads,  in-app purchases or extra fees. It\u2019s  available for download in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand and will be launching globally later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2026-03-19\/netflix-upcoming-movies-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los-Gatos-based company <\/a>has been investing in its games vertical since 2021, with <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2022-10-24\/lat-et-ct-netfllix-games\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mixed results<\/a>. Some of the most popular games include \u201cGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas,\u201d which became available on  Netflix in 2023 and had 44 million downloads, and the multiplayer party title \u201cSquid Game: Unleashed\u201d in 2024 with 21 million downloads. <\/p>\n<p>Last fall, Netflix also <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-10-09\/netflix-unveils-first-set-of-games-for-the-tv\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">debuted its first slate of games for TV<\/a>, including Tetris Time Warp and Pictionary: Game Night. Previously, subscribers could only play Netflix games on their mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>The  announcement comes a little over a week after <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2026-03-26\/netflix-prices-rising-again-how-much-what-to-know\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the streamer raised its prices<\/a>. Netflix\u2019s standard plan with ads will now cost $8.99, up $1. Both the prices for the standard plan with no ads and the premium plan are rising by $2, to $19.99 and $26.99, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Netflix continues to double down on its gaming features, introducing new kid-friendly content.
