A man died early Sunday morning in San Jose after his car collided with construction barriers and caught on fire, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The collision occurred around 1:55 a.m. in the area of Capitol Expressway and Cunningham Avenue, according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department.<\/p>\n
A police sergeant patrolling the area heard a collision and located a \u201cseverely damaged\u201d vehicle, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The police investigation found that an adult man had been driving a 2010 Toyota Camry south on Capitol Expressway at \u201ca high rate of speed,\u201d authorities said. The vehicle then crashed into construction barriers that were in the road\u2019s center median and the vehicle caught fire.<\/p>\n
Responders put out the fire and extricated the driver from the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities added.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner pending positive identification.<\/p>\n
This marked San Jose\u2019s 11th traffic death and 11th fatal collision of the year.<\/p>\n
