The item sits on the <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/v1774655192\/fresnouorg\/rqawku7xqcezrpzxn0me\/20260408-0-BoardAgendaandSupportMaterial.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">consent agenda,<\/a> where content is typically approved in one vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe board recognizes the importance of establishing a consistent, transparent, and community-centered process for addressing concerns related to facility names, murals, or likenesses of individuals represented on district property,\u201d the resolution states.<\/p>\n<p><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/contact\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GVWire-Ad-Get-our-mobile-app-1280\u00d790-1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GVWire-Ad-Get-our-mobile-app-1280x90-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"   width=\"1280\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last month, The New York Times released a multi-year investigation on Ch\u00e1vez, including several allegations of raping underage girls.\u00a0Following the bombshell report, United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta <a href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/2026\/03\/18\/what-dolores-huerta-says-about-cesar-chavez-the-sexual-predator\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shared her story<\/a>. She said Ch\u00e1vez raped her twice in the 60s, resulting in two pregnancies.<\/p>\n<p>The news rocked the Central Valley, home to the farmworker movement, which previously proudly repped Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Fresno Unified did not participate in a C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Day celebration. Now, school leaders are a vote away from doubling down on distancing the district from Ch\u00e1vez.<\/p>\n<p>If trustees approve the resolution, the district will engage with the community to determine whether to remove representations of the labor leader.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, local leaders began scrambling to rid the area of Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s likeness. The city council voted to change the name of Cesar Chavez Boulevard, Fresno State removed a statue of the labor leader, and Fresno County changed the name of C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Day to Fresno County Farmworker and Agriculture Appreciation Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rlic_tareqanwar_link\">Related Story: <a href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/2026\/03\/19\/fresno-council-starts-on-path-of-restoring-old-street-names-to-chavez-blvd\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fresno Council Starts on Path of Restoring Old Street Names From Chavez Blvd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fresno Unified Will Reassess all Representations of C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez<\/p>\n<p>Fresno Unified acknowledges the \u201chistorical and cultural significance\u201d of Ch\u00e1vez while recognizing community concerns regarding his likeness on district property.<\/p>\n<p>The district\u2019s adult school is housed downtown at the C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Education Center, 2500 E. Stanislaus Ave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMurals, facility names, and other forms of public art or representation within school campuses play an important role in shaping school culture, community identity, and student experience,\u201d the resolution states.<\/p>\n<p>The district will create a process for gathering community preferences on the removal, preservation, restoration, or replacement of murals depicting Ch\u00e1vez and facilities bearing his name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rlic_tareqanwar_link\">Related Story: <a href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/2026\/03\/20\/fresno-state-swiftly-removes-cesar-chavez-statue-following-sexual-abuse-allegations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fresno State Swiftly Removes C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Statue Following Sexual Abuse &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fresno Unified will most likely facilitate this through community listening sessions, according to district spokesperson AJ Kato.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the district is doing an assessment of all buildings, murals, and curriculum that will be addressed and potentially altered or removed.
