Long Beach will host a free career fair this month to connect those who identify with the transgender, gender expansive, intersex and two-spirit+ (TGI2S+) community with career opportunities and resources.<\/p>\n

The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. April 23 at Billie Jean King Main Library, 200 W. Broadway, and will be hosted by the Economic Development and Opportunity, Health and Human Services, and Library, Arts and Culture departments.<\/p>\n

The career fair will feature a variety of employers and hiring representatives, and is intended to foster an environment of inclusivity and support, according to a press release. Community organizations will also be present to offer specialized services tailored to the needs of the community.<\/p>\n

Workshops will be conducted to educate attendees about employee rights and the process of applying for jobs with the city itself, officials said.<\/p>\n

Optional preparation sessions will be held virtually prior to the event to help attendees maximize their experience, the press release said. People who indicate interest in attending a preparation session in the RSVP form will be contacted with more information.<\/p>\n

Participating employers for the TGI2S+ career fair include Apple One<\/a>, LA Metro, Ulta Beauty and more. Community partners that will be present include Alexis Project, APLA Health, Earthlodge Center for Transformation, Live with Ease Wellness Center and The LGBTQ Center Long Beach.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the city\u2019s Racial and Health Equity team presented the findings of the Long Beach LGBTQIA2S+ Community Health Needs Assessment.<\/a> The assessment\u2019s community survey found that out of 447 total participants, nearly 70% were people of color; 47% identified as transgender, gender expansive or intersex; 31% had an income of $20,000 or less; and 60% were 25 to 44 years old.<\/p>\n

Some of the priorities and areas of support needed in Long Beach\u2019s LGBTQ+ community included support for transgender, gender expansive and intersex individuals who are homeless; community members who are rent burdened; those who need access affirming care; and victims of crime\/violence who need help accessing support services, according to the assessment.<\/p>\n

More information about the findings of the community health needs assessment will be shared during an upcoming summit. The Long Beach LGBTQIA2S+ Community Health Summit will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 18 at Long Beach City College\u2019s Liberal Arts Campus, 4901 E. Carson St.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the summit is to bring community members, leaders and stakeholders invested in LGBTQ+ community health in Long Beach together, and put the data and lessons learned from the health assessment into practice and action, organizers said. The summit seeks to celebrate the diversity, complexity and strengths of the Long Beach LGBTQ+ community while building new connections, ideas and partnerships to address the community\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n

There will also be a variety of workshops, community resources and a marketplace for attendees to enjoy, organizers said.<\/p>\n
