In California the latest average price for a gallon of regular gas is nearly $6, according to AAA, and the cost of diesel fuel hit a new record of $7.68 per gallon.As the owner and operator of a Sacramento-area Chevron station, Patricia Cox hears all about it.”They’re not happy about the prices,” said Cox. “A lot of our customers feel that we decide the prices, but that’s not true at all. We have to go with what the company says and what the area is charging.”She understands, however, the frustration felt as her loyal customers fuel up.”We’re like family here,” Cox said. “A lot of our customers are like family.Those customers told KCRA 3 they’re not quite sure what to do.”That’s a question for everybody. What are we gonna do?” Teddy Parkes with AAA CleanUp and Out, LLC wondered. “If it keeps goin’ up, people won’t be afford to drive.”It’s a daunting reality to be faced with, especially when livelihoods hinge on an ability to get to and from job sites, and taking public or mass transit simply isn’t in the cards.”It’s not an option,” said Parkes. “If it went up to $10 dollars, I’d have to pay it.”The price of doing business as a handyman is potentially needing to get passed on to Parkes’ customers too.”Either I take the hit or they take the hit,” he said. “Either way as consumers we’re all taking the hit.”It’s a hit with no easy solution for those paying the price, but not wanting to pass it along.”It seems unreal to pay that much money for one gallon,” Cox said.KCRA 3 checked in with Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor and Sacramento Regional Transit.Capitol Corridor said it’s still processing exact Capitol Corridor ridership numbers for last month, but it says March was the busiest month since the pandemic.
