Sacramento landowners have until next week to clear their property of overgrown weeds or face fines from the city. Sacramento city services said there are more than 3,000 weed abatement cases open right now. These lots pose a significant fire hazard, and it is up to the property owner to clear their lots. They have until April 15 before the city starts handing out violations, which can be fines up to $1,500.West Sacramento is using livestock like sheep and goats to graze fields of overgrown grass and weeds. &#8220;They actually mitigate better than other methods,&#8221; West Sacramento Fire Marshal Bryan Jonson said. &#8220;They can access different types of terrain better than other methods, whether it be people or equipment.&#8221;Jonson said nearly 40% of the city is undeveloped.&#8221;It&#8217;s quite a lift from now until you know the mid-summer when we enforce our weed abatement program,&#8221; Jonson said.The fire department is now preparing to send out 1,000 notices to property owners with overgrown weeds.
