During an Easter egg hunt on Sunday at DeForest Park in Long Beach, a possible human skull was discovered, prompting an investigation by authorities. The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call around 5 p.m. after someone searching for Easter eggs found what appeared to be a small skull.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. As of Monday, police remained at the site, awaiting the arrival of forensic anthropologists to determine whether the remains are human and to gather further details about the discovery.<\/p>\n

According to the Los Angeles Times<\/a>, the remains were found in a park area that runs along the Los Angeles River and features wetlands, nature trails, and other public amenities.<\/p>\n

USA TODAY<\/a> reported that the area was cordoned off with crime scene tape, and a white canopy was erected as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not released further details about the person who discovered the remains, nor have they confirmed the identity or age of the possible skull. The police department has stated that there is no immediate threat to the public, but the investigation is ongoing to determine how the remains came to be in the park.<\/p>\n

Jessica Flores, a Long Beach resident, expressed her concern to Newsweek<\/a>, saying, “It hurts because if it\u2019s a child, that\u2019s very sad. I just hope they figure out whose child this is.”<\/p>\n
