1.\u00a0Could LA\u2019s coastline become a national park? Study sparks debate<\/a><\/p>\n A stretch of Los Angeles County\u2019s coastline is under federal review as part of a new study exploring whether the area should become part of the National Park System.<\/p>\n The study, which the Department of the Interior ordered in February, includes roughly 20 miles of shoreline from Pacific Palisades to Torrance. It was mandated by a 2023 law to examine whether federal management could improve preservation, access and resources along the coast.<\/p>\n NPS officials stress that the study itself does not change how the beaches are currently managed and that any decision to designate the area as a national park or similar site would require further action by Congress or the president.<\/p>\n Still, the possibility has drawn strong interest and concern from local communities.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0New Pacific Surfliner trip to expand service from LA<\/a><\/p>\n A new daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip connecting Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo will begin service next month, expanding rail options for commuters, it was announced Monday.<\/p>\n The additional trip, launching May 4, will increase service levels from Los Angeles, including six daily trains to Goleta and three to San Luis Obispo, according to the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency.<\/p>\n Santa Barbara County highlighted how the expanded service demonstrates investment in regional transportation and delivers on the voter-approved Measure A, a half-cent sales tax for transportation in Santa Barbara County.<\/p>\n The Pacific Surfliner operates along a 351-mile coastal corridor linking San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, serving 29 stations.<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0Analysis by avalanche experts question decisions by guides on deadly California backcountry trip<\/a><\/p>\n An investigation has found nine backcountry skiers killed in the deadliest avalanche in modern California history were being guided through dangerous terrain when safer routes were available.<\/p>\n It also says the group was large enough to increase the risk of being caught in a deadly slide.<\/p>\n The report of the Sierra Avalanche Center was released Saturday. It questions decisions made by group leaders with Blackbird Mountain Guides.
