Commissioned in 1961,\u00a0USS\u00a0Long Beach (CGN 9), a guided\u00a0missile\u00a0cruiser, was the first nuclear-powered surface ship in the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0Navy.\u00a0Ex-Long Beach was\u00a0decommissioned\u00a0in 1995\u00a0and is currently moored at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility\u00a0awaiting final disposition.\u00a0The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the official list of the Nation\u2019s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National\u00a0Historic\u00a0Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), the NRHP is part of a national program to coordinate and support\u00a0public and private efforts to\u00a0identify, evaluate, and protect America\u2019s historic and archeological resources. The Navy conducted\u00a0a\u00a0Naval\u00a0Vessel\u00a0Historical\u00a0Evaluation\u00a0to assess eligibility of ex-Long Beach for listing in the NRHP and determined the ship to be ineligible.\u00a0The evaluation can be found at the link below.
