Embattled San Francisco Supervisor Jackie Fielder<\/a> is asking for a stunning three months away from City Hall,\u00a0a disappearance that would sideline the progressive lawmaker through the city\u2019s most high-stakes budget fight.<\/p>\n

The Post first reported<\/a> that Fielder formally requested to skip all Board of Supervisors meetings after what her office described as an \u201cacute personal health crisis<\/a>\u201d that led to her hospitalization.<\/p>\n

Now, new information released Tuesday<\/a> shows she is seeking to extend that leave through June 30, dramatically lengthening her absence.<\/p>\n

The timeline is already raising eyebrows. By the time her hospitalization became public in late March, Fielder had already missed roughly two weeks of meetings.<\/p>\n

Fielder earns about $175,370 a year, or roughly $14,600 a month. If she stays out through June, that\u2019s nearly three months off the job, about $40,000 to $45,000 in taxpayer-funded pay. <\/p>\n

The timing is also raising questions. <\/p>\n

Fielder\u2019s office has come under scrutiny amid an ongoing investigation into the leak of a confidential city memo<\/a> tied to a controversial \u201csobering center\u201d proposal,\u00a0a breach that triggered warnings of serious consequences at the highest levels of City Hall.<\/p>\n

City Attorney David Chiu warned lawmakers the leak could carry \u201cserious ramifications,\u201d including discipline, fines, or even removal from office for an elected official.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the city attorney confirmed an investigation is underway into the unlawful disclosure of privileged legal information but declined to say whether any supervisor or office is a target.<\/p>\n

Fielder\u2019s office has denied any involvement, and no findings have been made public.<\/p>\n

The leak itself exposed internal legal concerns that Mayor Daniel Lurie\u2019s proposed \u201cRESET Center\u201d<\/a> could violate state law and carry \u201cvery high legal risk.\u201d The Board of Supervisors ultimately approved the plan in a 9-2 vote, with Fielder among those who opposed it.<\/p>\n

In the days and weeks surrounding the controversy, Fielder stopped appearing at City Hall.<\/p>\n

The extended absence would sideline Fielder during San Francisco\u2019s high-stakes budget negotiations. AP<\/p>\n

At one point, she reportedly indicated she planned to resign after being hospitalized, before later saying she would wait and decide after recovering.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear whether the investigation played any role in the events leading up to her hospitalization.<\/p>\n

What is clear is the timing.<\/p>\n

Her extended leave lands squarely in the middle of San Francisco\u2019s budget season<\/a>, when billions in taxpayer dollars are negotiated before a final vote expected in July. <\/p>\n

Fielder\u2019s request, submitted to Board President Rafael Mandelman, still requires approval and must technically be granted meeting by meeting. Mandelman has signaled support, saying it is \u201cappropriate\u201d for her to take time to recover and noting she may not need the full duration.<\/p>\n

Her office says staff will continue handling constituent services during her absence.<\/p>\n

But inside City Hall, the impact is already taking shape.<\/p>\n

Committee assignments, including the government oversight panel she chairs,\u00a0are expected to shift temporarily. <\/p>\n
