{"id":257050,"date":"2026-04-08T05:31:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T05:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/257050\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T05:31:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T05:31:08","slug":"trove-of-sensitive-lapd-records-leaked-in-hack-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/257050\/","title":{"rendered":"Trove of sensitive LAPD records leaked in hack attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/06\/business\/hackers-run-amok-but-fewer-corporate-victims-are-paying-up-as-dealmakers-strive-to-outwit-criminals-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hackers have reportedly gained<\/a> access to personal information about Los Angeles Police Department officers, Internal Affairs documents and more in a breach of a major LA city office.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/11\/us-news\/foreign-hacker-compromised-fbis-cache-of-epstein-files-at-ny-field-office-in-2023\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trove of sensitive data<\/a> was leaked in a hack last month involving the LA City Attorney\u2019s office, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-04-07\/lapd-records-suspected-hack\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p>In all, more than 7.7 terabytes of the personal information was available for anyone to see online, reportedly involving nearly 340,000 files.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The data was not only connected to personal data about LAPD officers, but also to discovery in court cases which reportedly included unredacted information about things like names and medical information about witnesses, investigative files, and criminal complaints.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39022681\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2025-lapd-officers-guard-los-125209328.jpg\" alt=\"LAPD officers guard the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters during a protest.\" class=\"wp-image-39022681\"  \/>The trove of sensitive information reportedly started surfacing online. Alamy Stock Photo<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear at this time how many officers names and personal information got swept up in the reported attack on the department that employs nearly 9,000 officers.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the information about police officer records is considered private, under state law. Internal Affairs documents are typically not seen, except in court documents, and even then, they are heavily blocked out, the report noted.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the information already started surfacing on social media platforms. One account on X, who makes posts related to police accountability, had a post reportedly connected to the records leak, the Times noted.<\/p>\n<p>But by Tuesday afternoon, the post about a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/09\/business\/conduent-data-breach-exposed-25-million-americans-including-half-of-texas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported security breach<\/a> at the LA office from a \u201csecurity researcher,\u201d was taken down.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet noted that it is unclear if there was any ransom issued as part of the breach or if anyone connected to the city paid it.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39022682\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/client-view-los-angeles-city-125209327.jpg\" alt=\"Los Angeles City Hall building on a sunny day.\" class=\"wp-image-39022682\"  \/>The attack reportedly involved personal information about LAPD officers. Shutterstock \/ Tsuguliev<\/p>\n<p>News of the reported security breach brought some attacks against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and the LA City Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood job,<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MayorOfLA\" rel=\"nofollow\"> @MayorOfLA<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LACityCouncil\" rel=\"nofollow\"> @LACityCouncil<\/a>!,\u201d one person wrote, apparently with sarcasm. \u201cTrove of sensitive LAPD records leaked in suspected hack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another person wrote. \u201cI\u2019m so tired.
