SF man convicted of animal cruelty in savage kicking of small dog <\/a><\/p>\nThe author of the posts said she was visiting Berryessa Creek Park with her two dogs around 1 p.m. Saturday when she stumbled upon dog treats that were scattered on a park path along Isadora Drive, near a public playground and elementary school. She said the smell of the treats was overwhelming and resembled insecticide.<\/p>\n
The Nextdoor post reads, \u201cThe treats REEK of Raid Bug Spray. It smells like someone soaked them in Raid. I picked up as many as I could and found the abandoned jar they came in, but I don\u2019t know if I got them all\u2026KEEP YOUR DOGS AND KIDS SAFE.\u201d<\/p>\n
The post has sparked gratitude, outrage and concern among other Nextdoor and Reddit users.<\/p>\n
The woman said she has filed reports with police and animal control. \u201cAn officer with SJ Animal Control collected my evidence, so the investigation is officially in the city\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n
Local officials now tell KRON4 the treats were analyzed and appear to be old and not laced with any insecticides. Some dog owners said their dogs got sick from the treats, but they were not poisoned.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur field officers contacted the reporting party and obtained the canister of the suspected treats,\u201d said Monica Wylie, Deputy Director of the Animal Care and Services Division within the City of San Jose\u2019s Public Works Department. \u201cIt contained a small container of milk-bone treats, which only smelled stale\/old with no detectable odor suggesting contamination or poison. The treats were disposed of. We appreciate the individual\u2019s vigilance and encourage the public to avoid allowing their dogs to eat unknown or random items.\u201d<\/p>\n
