(WLOX) \u2014 The Long Beach Fire Department received a new fire truck on Tuesday after waiting several years for its arrival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Before this truck\u2019s arrival, the newest vehicle in the Long Beach Fire Department\u2019s fleet was already 13 years old, with some engines dating back to 1999. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Long Beach Fire Chief Griff Skellie said the new engine helps modernize a fleet that has long relied on aging apparatus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Fire Chief Griff Skellie said the addition of the new engine helps modernize a fleet that has...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/YI5W44NADVE2LMLR6U6B2KGYI4.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>Fire Chief Griff Skellie said the addition of the new engine helps modernize a fleet that has long relied on aging apparatus.(WLOX)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been running some older model trucks. They do well, and they do their job. They\u2019re just getting some age on them, makes you leery of how long they are going to go,\u201d said Skellie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fire departments across the country need new engines, but there are only a few companies to order from, and they are dealing with a severe backlog. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">One reason truck orders are delayed is that most must be custom-built. This new engine features a shorter wheelbase, making it easier to maneuver through the streets of Long Beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">City leaders said the new fire engine strengthens the department\u2019s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis new fire engine represents an important investment in the safety of our community,\u201d said Mayor Tim Pierce. \u201cWe are committed to providing our first responders with the resources they need to serve and protect Long Beach at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Firefighters will spend the coming weeks training on the new equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammar error in this story?
