HARBOR GATEWAY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A month after Los Angeles police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect at a 7-Eleven in Harbor Gateway, the LAPD on Monday released body camera video of the confrontation.

Officers responded at 11:15 p.m. on March 7 to a radio call of a robbery in progress at the convenience store, located at 15300 South Figueroa Street, just west of the 110 Freeway, authorities said in a news release.

According to the LAPD, police arrived to find the suspect, 53-year-old Cynthia Anne Ivie Akers, standing behind the 7-Eleven’s front counter.

A robbery at a 7-Eleven in Harbor Gateway turned deadly after LAPD says officers were confronted by an armed suspect.

“The officers issued multiple verbal commands to gain Akers’ compliance; however, those commands were disregarded,” the police statement said. “Akers then suddenly moved toward the counter, removed a handgun from a zippered bag, and pointed it in the direction of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.”

Akers was struck by gunfire and taken into custody.

“The officers immediately rendered medical aid and requested the response of the Los Angeles Fire Department,” who responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased, the LAPD said.

According to investigators, the weapon in Akers’ possession was determined to be a pellet gun. It was recovered and booked as evidence.

No one else was injured in the confrontation.
