Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler and Atlanta \u2060Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez were both ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning on Tuesday in Anaheim, California, following a benches-emptying fight.<\/p>\n
Soler, who hit a two-run \u200bhomer in the first inning and was \u200cstruck by \u200ca pitch on his left hand \u200bin the third, took exception to a high and inside fifth-inning fastball that glanced off the \u2060glove of catcher Jonah Heim and bounced to the backstop, \u2060enabling Nolan Schanuel, who had walked, to advance to second.<\/p>\n
Soler stared at Lopez for \u200bseveral seconds before jogging \u2060to the mound. Both players then squared up began throwing punches, none of \u2060which appeared \u200bto land squarely, as players from both \u200bteams rushed in. Lopez fended Soler off \u200bwith his \u200cglove and threw punches with his right hand, which still held the baseball.<\/p>\n
Braves manager Walt Weiss ended up tackling Soler on the first \u200cbase line to help break up the fracas.<\/p>\n
The top main combatants were the only personnel threw out of the game.<\/p>\n
Lopez was nearing the end of his \u200bouting, \u200bat 80 pitches and 4 \u2154 \u200binnings over which he struck out seven and allowed \u2060two runs on three hits and two walks.<\/p>\n
Soler was the 2021 World Series MVP for the Braves and is now on his \u200bthird different team since that brief stint, including a return to Atlanta in 2024.<\/p>\n
Tyler Kinley replaced Lopez, stranding a runner at third, while Jeimer Candelario replaced Soler in the Angels’ lineup.<\/p>\n
