\u201cIt went under a $1.6 million rehab,\u201d said Sarah Abelson, spokesperson for PE Management Group,<\/a> which has owned Belmont Park since 2012. \u201cBecause it\u2019s over 100 years old, at least every few years it undergoes a major rehab. This is just to ensure that it feels like a smooth ride and we can try to give our guests the best experience when riding the historical Giant Dipper.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a specific team that comes on site during the rehab to do the work,\u201d she added. \u201cIt is just to ensure that the track is smoother for our riders.\u201d<\/p>\n The wooden coaster, which attracts more than 553,700 guests annually, reopened in mid-March, Abelson said.<\/p>\n Those coming to ride the roller coaster will also see a brand-new addition to the park. A recently-built play area now sits adjacent to the park\u2019s Shipwreck Cove amusement ride. The Shipwreck Cove Play Area<\/a>, as it\u2019s called, is a kids\u2019 zone that opened about four months ago after about a year of planning and construction.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s essentially a free play structure that\u2019s open and designed for kids 5 to 12,\u201d Abelson said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s open and available for usage during regular park hours.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s our first free play structure,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s fun for kids who kind of want a break between going on the rides, to be able to just come and run around a little bit.<\/p>\n \u201cIt looks like a big ship, at the top of it, it has a Captain Hook-esque character,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd you can actually see it from different points of view throughout the park. It\u2019s pretty high, so you can see it from multiple angles.\u201d<\/p>\n For those either not into amusement park rides or who want a change of pace, Belmont Park also has an upcoming event that might be to their liking: The annual Belmont in Bloom festival<\/a> runs through May 31.<\/p>\n An annual event now in its fourth year, the festival features vibrant floral installations, live music, interactive performers, and limited-time food and beverages across the park.<\/p>\n Among the planned events is a K-Pop Stars Dance and Sing Along on Saturday from 11 a.m.\u20132 p.m. Fans can enjoy live performances, meet-and-greet opportunities and family-friendly activities like face painting and bubble artists.<\/p>\n Additionally, seasonal food and beverage specials are scheduled to be available every day at select locations in the park.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/ShipwreckCove.jpg\")
