SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) \u2014 Thursday morning, on the steps of San Francisco\u2019s City Hall, city leaders and anti-violence community organizations, like United Playaz, and local youth called for a 24-hour ceasefire on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were at four homicides last year at this time; we are at 14 in San Francisco,\u201d said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. \u201cThis is a crisis point.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rudy Corpuz, Executive Director for United Playaz, said it\u2019s going to take all parties to stop violence, the city and local organizations.<\/p>\n
Philz Coffee CEO confirms Pride flags will be removed from stores <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAnd if we\u2019re successful in San Francisco, then maybe we can do Oakland, then we can do Richmond, we can do Vallejo, and then we can do a 24-hour ceasefire for the whole Northern California,\u201d said Corpuz.<\/p>\n Organizers said the purpose of the ceasefire is to promote peace, strengthen coordination, prevent violence, and build safer communities.<\/p>\n \u201cFor a cease fire for our kids, y\u2019all with me?\u201d asked Corpuz, eliciting an applause from the gathered crowd.<\/p>\n The youth who participated took the platform to share their experiences.<\/p>\n \u201cBullets do not have a name on them; they do actually have a name, their name is destruction,\u201d said one youth speaker.<\/p>\n Among the youth was Toni Bedford, sister of Keenan Erwin<\/a>, who survived gun violence after being shot at Burton High School in 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a big sister and as a leader, we have purpose, and the purpose is to push for peace,\u201d said Bedford.<\/p>\n Corpuz also brought up some recent homicides that involved youth.<\/p>\n
