The Fresno County Democratic Party is refusing to support Asm. Joaquin Arambula (D\u2013Fresno) in his bid for the Fresno City Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last week, the Fresno County Democratic Party issued its endorsements for local races, which included a surprise flip in another city council race as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The big picture: The local Democratic Party did not endorse a candidate in the Fresno City Council District 3 race.\u00a0<\/p>\n
That means Arambula, who running for the City Council after terming out of the Assembly, will make his bid for Council without support from the party\u2019s local committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Arambula is running against Tiffany Apodaca, Larry Tyrone Burrus, Charles Montoya, Fernando Alvarez Morales, Jalen Swank and Keshia Thomas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fresno County Democrats also flipped on their support of District 5 Councilman Brandon Vang. Instead, the party opted to endorse State Center Community College Trustee Danielle Parra.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Driving the news: Arambula is currently going through a high-profile divorce from his wife, Elizabeth, which has raised questions of his ability to serve.<\/p>\n
In her divorce filing, Elizabeth Arambula claimed that Joaquin Arambula is an alcoholic and is also addicted to cannabis and video games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Joaquin Arambula checked himself into rehab earlier this year, missing more than one month of work in the Assembly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Down the ballot: The Fresno County Democratic party issued endorsements in a number of other local races last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The party endorsed Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Michele Cantwell-Copher in her reelection campaign. She is running against Parlier Unified Assistant Superintendent Johnny Alvarado and former Clovis Unified Superintendent Eimear O\u2019Brien.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The organization endorsed Rey Leon for Fresno County Supervisor District 4, being vacated by Buddy Mendes.<\/p>\n
The party did not issue an endorsement in the District 1 race, which is being vacated by Brian Pacheco. Mike Karbassi, Omar Hernandez, Lupe Flores, Maria Pacheco, Eric Payne and Felipe Perez are vying to replace the Kerman dairyman.<\/p>\n
The party also issued endorsements in the two other Fresno City Council races, supporting State Center Community College District Trustee Rob Fuentes in District 1 and Nav Gurm in District 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Fresno County Democratic Party is refusing to support Asm.
