Milpitas resident Amrrut Saravanakumaran, 12, is in the process of penning an ambitious sci-fi adventure book series called \u201cThe Space Adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n
Book 1 was called \u201cThe Destruction of the Pirates.\u201d The newly released Book 2 is called \u201cThe Discovery of the Universes.\u201d A 95-page novella, this new work was the product of a five-month writing process.<\/p>\n
\u201cI plan to write many more. I\u2019ve started the third book,\u201d Saravanakumaran shared in an interview with The Beat.<\/p>\n
Saravanakumaran\u2019s writing process always involves starting with an idea that excites him, which is usually based around space and science.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe then develops the storyline step by step, often refining it as he goes, while incorporating scientific concepts that interest him,\u201d said his mother, Revathy Sankaranarayanan. <\/p>\n
The series revolves around two kid characters living on Mars and having adventures in outer space. In the first book, after accidentally taking off into space, they end up squaring off against space pirates. In their latest published adventure, they discover new universes, sometimes going through black holes in the process.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of this is proven by Einstein\u2019s general theory of relativity,\u201d Saravanakumaran explained, \u201cso it actually has real physics involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI always loved science,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd then one day I realized there was something called theoretical physics, and I got really into it. Since I was little, I always wanted to be an astronaut. I was in awe of space.\u201d <\/p>\n
Accordingly, when he started world-building for fiction, outer space was a natural destination.<\/p>\n
\u201cScience isn\u2019t just boring, random stuff that you usually learn in lectures at school. It\u2019s actually fun things that you can implement in real life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As for Saravanakumaran\u2019s style of writing, it\u2019s heavily influenced by Rick Riordan\u2019s \u201cPercy Jackson\u201d series, as well as the \u201cStar Wars\u201d films.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s suspenseful, adventurous,\u201d he said of his approach to writing. \u201cIt has a lot of adventure themes that are also intertwined with scientific themes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Back in second grade, Amrrut gained the encouragement of a teacher who said his essay writing was exceptionally good. \u201cThat\u2019s when he got that spark,\u201d his mom explained.<\/p>\n
