YOU’RE STILL GOING TO BE GOOD. I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE FINE. THE RAIN WILL BE KIND OF LURKING JUST TO THE NORTH OVER LOS ANGELES. BUT IN SAN DIEGO, WHEN THEY DO SPLASHDOWN AROUND 507, TONIGHT SHOULD BE FINE. JUST SOME CLOUDS AND A LIGHT WIND EXPECTED. EXCITING. IT’S BEEN FUN OUT THERE TOMORROW. SO I WAS JUST WONDERING, AFTER THE PARTY, THE AFTERPARTY. TOTALLY. ALL RIGHT, SO, TAMARA FORECAST UP HERE. YEAH. NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR A SPLASHDOWN. YEAH. YOU KNOW, THANKFULLY, THEY’RE NOT GOING TO BE DOING THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BECAUSE CONDITIONS ARE GOING TO CHANGE UP PRETTY ABRUPTLY AGAIN. I THINK WE’LL HAVE LIGHT WINDS AND JUST SOME CLOUD COVER THERE IN SAN DIEGO AS THEY PLUNGE DOWN OFF THE COAST OF SAN DIEGO LATER TODAY. BIGGEST CONCERN FOR US HERE ON THIS FRIDAY WILL BE THUNDERSTORMS. POTENTIAL FOR FREQUENT LIGHTNING. SOME OF YOU GOT A LITTLE TASTE OF THAT, ESPECIALLY YESTERDAY EVENING. AND HAIL. I THINK THE HAIL WILL BE ONE OF THE BIGGER CONCERNS AS WE COULD SEE. QUARTER TO EVEN PING PONG, BALL SIZED HAIL POTENTIALLY. IF THESE STORMS MOVE THROUGH YOUR REGION. ALSO PLAN FOR WET ROADS WHEN THESE STORMS ROLL THROUGH AND POTENTIAL FOR SOME STANDING WATER AND LOCALIZED FLOODING IN A FEW AREAS. BIG PICTURE. VIEW IN THE LAST THREE HOURS ON RADAR SWEEP, YOU CAN SEE A COUPLE OF AREAS THERE. THUNDERSTORMS ESPECIALLY RIGHT ALONG AND WEST OF SIERRA PLUMAS COUNTY. MOST OF THOSE HAVE FIZZLED OUT FOR THE MOST PART, BUT THERE’S STILL SOME SHOWERS HERE BETWEEN MEADOW VISTA AND GRASS VALLEY, EVEN JUST OUTSIDE OF QUINCY. BUT LOOKING ALONG INTERSTATE 80, YOU CAN SEE THINGS ARE RELATIVELY QUIET. AND ALSO HERE ALONG HIGHWAY 50. WHILE THE ROADS MAY BE A LITTLE DAMP, ESPECIALLY AS YOU JOG UP IN ELEVATION, MOST OF THE SHOWERS ARE NOW MIGRATING TOWARDS THE TRUCKEE AND TAHOE BASIN, AND IT’S JUST RAIN AT THIS POINT. STOCKTON AND MODESTO. QUIET START TO YOUR MORNING. I EXPECT IT TO STAY THAT WAY, BUT AREAS LIKE SONORA AND ARNOLD SEEING JUST A COUPLE OF CELLS OF JUST SOME RAINFALL COMING THROUGH. BUT TODAY FOR THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY, WE’RE UNDER A MARGINAL RISK FOR THUNDERSTORM. SO THAT HAS ACTUALLY BUMPED UP FROM 24 HOURS AGO WHERE I WAS JUST TELLING YOU YESTERDAY ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME THUNDERSTORMS. BUT NOW THESE STORMS COULD BE GROWING STRONG TO SEVERE, PRODUCING FREQUENT LIGHTNING HAIL AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES. SO MY ADVICE TO YOU, ON A DAY LIKE THIS, AND EVEN JUST STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND, IF YOU’RE GOING TO PLAN TO BE OUTDOORS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AN ACTION PLAN TO TRACK THOSE CELLS THAT ARE MOVING THROUGH THE KCRA 3 APP IS A GREAT THING TO USE, OR ALSO THAT YOU HAVE SOME ALERTS ON YOUR PHONE BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY IF A STORM MOVES THROUGH. HERE IS 8:00 IN THE MORNING. AGAIN, MOST OF THE ACTIVITY ALONG THE COAST AND NEAR THE BAY AREA. BUT HERE IS THE AFTERNOON FOR US. 3:00 WE COULD HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD NASTY CELLS BETWEEN YUBA CITY AND STOCKTON AREA. THOSE CELLS AGAIN, COULD BE THOSE THUNDERSTORMS WE JUST TALKED ABOUT BY 8:00 TONIGHT, MOST OF THE ACTIVITY STARTS TO DISSIPATE. BUT THEN YOU CAN SEE AS WE GET INTO TOMORROW MORNING, THINGS ARE MUCH QUIETER. AND THEN IN THE AFTERNOON THINGS ARE QUIETER. BUT THE NEXT BOUNDARY COMES THROUGH IN THE OVERNIGHT SATURDAY. AND LOOK AT THIS BY SUNDAY. LOOK AT THIS. WE CAN SEE THAT THERE IS SNOW COMING DOWN IN THE SIERRA. HOW MUCH SNOWFALL ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? WELL, THOSE PASSES IN THE HIGH COUNTRY ABOVE 7000FT, 1 TO 2FT, LIKELY THERE’LL BE SOME STRONG OCCASIONAL GUSTY WINDS AS THAT BOUNDARY FIRES THROUGH THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL. PLANNING FOR IS SATURDAY NIGHT AND ON INTO SUNDAY. YOUR FORECAST DOESN’T STAND OUT TO YOU AGAIN STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WE’VE GOT ISOLATED CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS PRETTY NICE THROUGH SUNDAY.

Thunderstorms, large hail and heavy rain expected for Friday’s Northern California forecast

   Updated: 7:49 AM PDT Apr 10, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Stormy weather that includes severe thunderstorms and ping pong-sized hail is expected in Northern California on Friday. The KCRA 3 weather team is issuing an Impact Day for Friday because of how weather could affect outdoor activities and travel.
