One of Fresno\u2019s leading developers is calling on local labor leader Dillon Savory to resign over his opposition to development in southeast Fresno.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ed Kashian, the CEO of property management firm and developer Lance Kashian, penned an Op-Ed in GV Wire blasting Savory for his opposition to the Southeast Development Area (SEDA) plan.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The backstory: Fresno has been working to develop the southeastern portion of the city for decades, with SEDA finally picking up some steam under Mayor Jerry Dyer\u2019s administration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
SEDA spans 9,000 acres in southeast Fresno and would provide up to 45,000 new housing units if seen to completion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Driving the news: Savory, the Executive Director of the Fresno-Madera-Tulare-Kings Central Labor Council, has been loudly opposed to SEDA.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During a press conference outside of Fresno City Hall last November, Savory said SEDA is \u201cdumb growth\u201d and promised to defeat SEDA in the courts or at the ballot box.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe keys to City Hall have always resided in the pockets of the residential home builders in this community,\u201d Savory said at the time, according to a report from The Business Journal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Savory told the San Francisco Chronicle last November that SEDA is not viable and doesn\u2019t pay for itself. He also claimed that \u201cnobody wants to be here\u201d because of sprawl development making Fresno one of the worst-planned cities in the nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
