A 32-year-old man killed in a shooting in Long Beach\u2019s Belmont Shore area has been identified by county authorities.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Spears of Long Beach was shot about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of La Verne Avenue. He died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe preliminary investigation indicates a group of subjects got into an altercation, related to an incident that started at a local bar earlier in the evening,\u201d according to a Long Beach Police Department statement. \u201cDuring the altercation, which occurred outside \u2026 a male adult suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n
Spears died on the street. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.<\/p>\n
After a preliminary investigation, homicide detectives identified Jason Loving, 41, of Harbor City, as a suspect, according to the LBPD.<\/p>\n
Loving was arrested in Compton and taken to the Long Beach City Jail, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder, being prohibited possessor of a weapon and a restraining order violation. His bail was set at $2 million.<\/p>\n
Detectives also identified Dasmine Hall, 31, of Compton, as a woman allegedly with Loving when the shooting occurred, and who fled the scene with him. Hall was also arrested in Compton and taken to the Long Beach Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of murder and accessory to murder. Her bail was also set at $2 million.<\/p>\n
Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson released a statement Sunday addressing what he called a pattern of \u201cgrowing disorder and unsafe behavior linked to certain late-night establishments\u201d in Belmont Shore.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the late-night environment in Belmont Shore,\u201d Richardson said. He also pointed out that no homicides had been reported in the East Division \u2014 which includes Belmont Shore \u2014 until Saturday.<\/p>\n
