{"id":261831,"date":"2026-04-10T23:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/261831\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T23:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:26:08","slug":"rain-possibly-heavy-expected-this-weekend-in-southern-california-orange-county-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/261831\/","title":{"rendered":"Rain \u2014 possibly heavy \u2014 expected this weekend in Southern California \u2013 Orange County Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rain is expected to return to Southern California this weekend as two storm systems move into the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first system for late Friday into Saturday will have minimal impact as the upper low remains mostly over Northern California,\u201d according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Rainfall amounts will range from a trace up to around a quarter-inch, forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p>The second system, expected late Saturday into Sunday, will be stronger and could bring heavy showers and possible severe storms, according to the NWS.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters said the storm will bring a 3- to 5-hour period of steady rain overnight into Sunday morning, along with increasing instability that could produce brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, lightning and a slight chance of a small tornado or waterspout.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Graphic courtesy of the National Weather Service\" width=\"1920\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WeatherStory1.png\" data-attachment-id=\"11541677\" \/>Graphic courtesy of the National Weather Service<\/p>\n<p>Rainfall totals are forecast to range from about one-half inch to 1 inch, and rainfall rates could reach about a quarter- to half-inch per hour, with brief, isolated bursts up to three-quarters of an inch per hour in the strongest cells, forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p>The main front is expected to move through Southern California between early morning and mid-morning Sunday, with lingering showers possible into Sunday night and early Monday before drier conditions return, according to the weather agency.<\/p>\n<p>Snow levels are expected to hover around 7,000 feet through Sunday morning before dropping to near 5,000 feet Sunday afternoon into early Monday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Blue skies and mild temperatures at O'Melveny Park in Granada Hills on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
