{"id":261847,"date":"2026-04-10T23:41:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/261847\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T23:41:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:41:12","slug":"oc-immigrant-and-refugee-affairs-office-honors-community-in-2-year-anniversary-orange-county-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/261847\/","title":{"rendered":"OC Immigrant and Refugee Affairs Office honors community in 2-Year anniversary \u2013 Orange County Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two years after its launch, Orange County\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2024\/05\/30\/oc-new-office-of-immigrant-and-refugee-affairs-kicks-off-work\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs<\/a> celebrated its anniversary on Friday by recognizing a growing network of community groups, school districts, faith institutions and public agencies supporting local residents.<\/p>\n<p>Held at Santa Ana\u2019s Newsong Church, the anniversary event recognized 43 community partners and presented several awards to immigrant-owned businesses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2024\/04\/16\/director-of-new-office-of-immigrant-and-refugee-affairs-has-hands-on-experience-officials-said\/?share=psgernrsporasessrlfi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Established in 2024 by the OC Board of Supervisors<\/a>, the office also received a $500,000 contribution from Supervisor Doug Chaffee\u2019s discretionary fund to help its launch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Raul and Rosalina Davis and their son Raul Davis, Jr....\" class=\"size-article_inline\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/OCR-L-OIRA2ND-0411-01-PB.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Raul and Rosalina Davis and their son Raul Davis, Jr. accept an Entrepreneurial Spirit Award during the second anniversary event for the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs in Santa Ana, CA on Friday, April 10, 2026. (Photo by Paul Bersebach, Orange County Register\/SCNG)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since then, officials say the office has assisted more than 15,000 Orange County residents by connecting them to services such as housing, education, health care and employment.<\/p>\n<p>The honorees on Friday included a diverse network of organizations, from legal advocates such as the Public Law Center and Immigrant Defenders Law Center to health providers such as CalOptima Health and Latino Health Access, as well as community groups such as VietRISE and Access California Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach person who is an immigrant or identifies as an immigrant or refugee is someone with their own story,\u201d said Jose Serrano, director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2023\/04\/26\/orange-county-launches-new-office-to-assist-immigrants-and-refugees\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orange County\u2019s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Serrano said his approach has been guided by a philosophy of service that takes into account \u201call of the different experiences and the layers of vulnerabilities\u201d of those who seek assistance from his office.
