The festival\u2019s history dates back to 1940 when the people of Long Beach made the world\u2019s largest clam fritter in the world\u2019s then-largest frying pan containing 200 pounds of razor clams. Drawing in over 1400 visitors, the headline events include the fritter cook-off and the clam chowder taste-off that pit local restaurants against each other for the Best Chowder Trophy. Also included are razor clam digging lessons on the beach, an oyster shucking contest, a fresh Dungeness crab boil, kids\u2019 activities, music, food and a selfie next to the Giant Squirting Clam in downtown Long Beach. For the complete schedule of events, visit: longbeachmerchants.com.<\/p>\n<p>Open house and \u2018walk &amp; talk\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Clatsop County Parks is having an open house and walk &amp; talk \u201cto help shape the future of Carnahan County Park\u201d 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 25 at the Pacific Grange Hall, 90475 Highway 101 in Warrenton<\/p>\n<p>Parks Staff will present draft design concepts for boating facility improvements at Carnahan Park, developed in coordination with the Oregon State Marine Board. Community feedback will play a key role in refining the plan and guiding next steps, according to a press release about the event.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a drawing for a Clatsop County Parks Annual Pass and light refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>Road work for week of April 13<\/p>\n<p>Walluski Loop is reduced to one lane due to a landslide. Temporary traffic signals with a sensored timer are being used to help traffic flow.<\/p>\n<p>Road crews will also be performing shoulder work on Lewis &amp; Clark Road and crack sealing as weather permits. they will also be cleaning culverts in the Jeffers Garden area, applying herbicide application to road shoulders, weather permitting, brushing and performing ditch maintenance in the Brownsmead area and maintaining drainage in the Vinemaple and Elsie areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Astorian<\/p>\n<p>Ecola State Park reopens<\/p>\n<p>Ecola State Park, which shut down due to a \u201csignificant\u201d landslide in December, is now back open to visitors, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced on social media Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The park, located just north of Cannon Beach, is known for its sweeping views of the coastline and miles of gorgeous hiking trails. The park is also known for its regular closures after landslides in the rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2021, heavy rains opened up a sinkhole and a fissure opened up in the entrance road.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2020, the park closed after a landslide destroyed a 100-foot portion of the Crescent Beach Trail, months after park officials reopened the Indian Beach Trail, which had been closed since a landslide at the end of 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2017, the parks department spent around $10,000 to repair the entrance road after closing it due to a landslide.
