<\/p>\n RIVERSIDE, Calif.\u00a0\u2013 The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped the opening game of their Western Athletic Conference series to California Baptist 9-1 on Friday night at James W. Totman Stadium.<\/p>\n UTA (13-19, 2-2 WAC) trailed 2-0 after the first inning as California Baptist’s Connor Ross delivered a two-run double to give the Lancers an early advantage. CBU added two more runs in the second inning and four in the fourth to build a commanding lead.<\/p>\n The Mavericks broke through in the seventh inning when Alex Bustamante<\/a> drove in Austin Phillips<\/a> with a sacrifice fly to center field, but UTA was unable to generate additional offense against the Lancer pitching staff. California Baptist added a run in the eighth inning to account for the final margin.<\/p>\n Noah Fields<\/a> and Hank Harp<\/a> each recorded a hit for the Mavericks, who were limited to eight hits on the evening. California Baptist finished with 11 hits.
\n<\/p>\n Pitching Profile<\/p>\n Junior Caylon Dygert<\/a> took the loss after allowing eight runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings.
