The trick was to lay off carbs.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dodgers<\/a>\u2019 35-year-old third baseman gave up bread and came into this season 17 pounds lighter. Older and quicker, healthy and ready to fight for a third consecutive World Series crown.<\/p>\n<p>The best version of himself, having the best of games when the Dodgers needed it.<\/p>\n<p>He hit three home runs Friday in an <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/gameday\/rangers-vs-dodgers\/2026\/04\/10\/823968\/final\/box\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">8-7 victory<\/a> over the Texas Rangers as the Dodgers improved to 10-3 and became baseball\u2019s first team to achieve double-digit victories.<\/p>\n<p>Muncy\u2019s third long ball \u2014 a two-out, no-doubt-about-it, 401-foot solo shot to right-center in the bottom of the ninth inning \u2014 was the game-winner. He\u2019s the first player with a three-home run game that included a walk-off homer since the Pittsburgh Pirates\u2019 Jack Suwinski did it in 2022. He is only the second player in Dodgers history to have a walk-off homer as part of a three-home run game, joining <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/demetdo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Don Demeter<\/a>, who accomplished the feat on April 21, 1959, according to Elias Sports Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>           <img id=\"yt-img-x5g9RJWmcM4\" class=\"absolute\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1775895793_50_hqdefault.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>               <\/p>\n<p class=\"video-enhancement-title\">Max Muncy hits a walk-off home run to cap his three-home run night in an 8-7 win over Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Muncy\u2019s first two home runs Friday \u2014 Nos. 2 and 3 this season \u2014 came in the second and fourth innings and were the 211th and 212th in his Dodgers\u2019 tenure, tying and then surpassing <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2024-10-25\/column-garvey-had-much-better-luck-against-the-yankees-in-1981-than-he-will-in-the-november-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Garvey<\/a> for third-most in the franchise\u2019s Los Angeles history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just special, any time you hit a home run in a big league game is special, let alone three,\u201d said Muncy, who now has 20 multi-homer games and two with three home runs. \u201cI still think about the first time I did, so it\u2019s just a special night, and to get the win on top of it was great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muncy and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-04-06\/dodgers-andy-pages-hot-start-nl-player-of-the-week\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Pages<\/a>, the Dodgers\u2019 scorching-hot seventh hitter, combined to go seven for eight and score seven runs, drive in seven runs and hit four home runs. Then Ezequiel Duran singled in Sam Haggerty to tie the score.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was talking to some of the guys and they say that perennially that\u2019s what [D\u00edaz] does,\u201d Dodgers manager Dave Robert said, acknowledging that his much-ballyhooed new closer isn\u2019t throwing as hard as he has in the past. \u201cStarts a little slower and then the velocity starts to creep up. He\u2019s going to get hot. That\u2019s a good thing for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This season, the Dodgers determined they needed two games \u2014 Friday and July 8 \u2014 to honor Ohtani\u2019s \u201cGreatest Game\u201d with the bobblehead treatment.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, all 53,675 fans went home with a bobbling figurine of Ohtani at the plate, a memento honoring his performance in Game 4 of the NLCS last October. He not only pitched six shutout innings and struck out 10 in that 5-1 NLCS-clinching victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, but he also hit three home runs that traveled a combined 1,342 feet.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers\u2019 Miguel Rojas won\u2019t take bereavement leave or travel back to his native Venezuela following the death of his father, Miguel Rojas Sr., Roberts said before the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot going on in Venezuela,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cAnd a lot of his family is kind of dispersed around the world, essentially.
