{"id":262489,"date":"2026-04-11T09:56:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T09:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/262489\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T09:56:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T09:56:19","slug":"artemis-ii-crew-splashes-down-off-san-diego-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/262489\/","title":{"rendered":"Artemis II Crew Splashes Down Off San Diego Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe crew of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/artemis-ii\/\" id=\"auto-tag_artemis-ii\" data-tag=\"artemis-ii\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artemis II<\/a> has safely splashed down after their historic 10-day trip around the moon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tShortly after 5pm PT, the Orion spacecraft, dubbed Integrity by its four-person crew, made re-entry and splashdown off the coast of San Diego. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFollowing what was described as a \u201ctextbook entry,\u201d crewmembers Victor Glover, Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen and Reid Wiseman were all in \u201cexcellent shape,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/nasa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nasa\" data-tag=\"nasa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASA<\/a>\u2018s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m3kR2KK8TEs\">livestream<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDuring re-entry, the capsule shed its service module and dived toward Earth at 24,000 miles per hour. Starting at 12,000 feet, a series of 11 parachutes unfurled to slow the capsule from several hundred miles-per-hour to a gradual 17\u201320 mph for splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLaunching on April 1, the Artemis II mission broke Apollo 13\u2019s record for human distance from Earth, traveling 252,756 miles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The crew of Artemis II has safely splashed down after their historic 10-day trip around the moon.
