RENO, Nev. \u2013\u00a0 Jake McCoy<\/a> hit a three-run home run and five different Spartans had multiple RBIs to lead the San Jos\u00e9 State baseball team (14-20, 5-6 MW) in a 12-6 victory over Nevada (18-13, 7-4 MW) Saturday afternoon from Don Weir Field at Peccole Park in the second game of a three game series.<\/p>\n

The Spartans set the tone in the second inning with a big rally. San Jos\u00e9 State strung together hits up and down the lineup, highlighted by RBI singles from Matteo Mendoza<\/a>, Peyton Rowles<\/a> and JC Osorio-Agard<\/a>. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and continued two-out hitting helped the Spartans plate six runs in the frame. In the fifth inning, McCoy delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a three-run home run to extend the Spartans\u2019 advantage to 9-0<\/p>\n

On the mound, Jesse Gutierrez<\/a> started the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Landon Marchetti<\/a> (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out three and allowing two runs across two innings. Kyle Calzadiaz<\/a> closed out the game, striking out four in the final 2.2 innings of the game.<\/p>\n

Nevada responded with runs in the middle innings, including three runs in the fifth and a run in both the sixth and seventh that briefly cut the Wolfpack deficit to five. However, San Jos\u00e9 State answered, adding insurance runs in the later innings, including a two-run eighth from an Alan Ramirez<\/a> two RBI single that helped put the game out of reach.<\/p>\n

In total, San Jos\u00e9 State finished with 12 runs on 15 hits.. Nevada tallied 14 hits of its own, but left 10 on base and struck out eight times.<\/p>\n

Alex Fernandes<\/a> went perfect at the plate, batting 2-for-2 with three walks, a hit by pitch, and two RBIs
\nMcCoy went 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs, his second three RBI game of the season
\nMcCoy\u2019s home run was his team leading eighth of the season and fifth in his last eight games
\nOsorio-Agard went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and is now 5-for-9 at bat so far in the series
\nMendoza went 3-for-5, recording three hits in a game for the first time in his career
\nRamirez and Rowles each had two RBIs
\nEvery Spartan who had an at-bat had a hit
\nGutierrez made his first start on the mound in conference play this season<\/p>\n
