Long Beach had lost five games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 6-18 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Gautier Gators 13-7. The Bearcats’ hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they’ve scored all season.

The team relied heavily on SJ Valentine, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Long Beach: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Carden, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

They weren’t the only ones making solid contact: Long Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That’s the most hits they’ve posted since back in March.

As for Gautier, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15. That’s two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly six runs.

On Gautier’s side, Heiron Figueroa was cooking despite his team’s loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakkoda Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

The teams didn’t have to wait long for a rematch: Long Beach beat Gautier by a score of 10-0 on Saturday.
